Your American Beautyberry Plant Pal!

Hi, I’m Beauty Berry! Pretty cute name, right? Some people even call me the American Beautyberry. My berries are this gorgeous purple-pink color, and trust me, they’re not just pretty – they’re powerful, too! I’ve been a total BFF to Indigenous people of the prairie for ages, especially when it comes to healing and helping out in everyday life. Let me tell you what I can do!

First off, I’m basically a natural bug repellent! My leaves and berries have been used forever to keep those annoying mosquitoes and bugs away. I’m like a built-in bug spray, but way more chill and plant-powered.

When it comes to medicine, I’ve got you! My berries are often made into boiled teas, and people have used me for all kinds of stuff. I’m super known for helping with fever and swelling. So, if you’re feeling sick or have a fever, I’ve totally got your back. I can even help with upset stomachs, so if your tummy’s not feeling right, count on me!

Oh, and did you know my berries are like magic for your skin, too? People have used me to treat skin irritations and little wounds. You can crush up my leaves and make a poultice (like those crazy expensive masks at beauty stores) to soothe your skin.

But wait, there’s more! I’m not just good for medicine. I’m super practical, too! My berries are perfect for making jams, jellies, and syrups, and they’re also an awesome food source for birds and small animals. So when you see me growing wild, I’m basically feeding everyone.

I’m a tough little plant, too. I can grow in all sorts of soils and climates, so I’m a super easy friend to have around. Plus, I’m just so gorgeous. My bright clusters of berries are like little jewels in the wild!

So, whether you’re looking for a natural bug repellent, a remedy for a fever, or just some cute berries to look at, I’m here to help in a million ways. I may be small, but I’ve got a lot to give. Just call me your all-natural bestie!

Now that we are pals, come visit me in the UTA Land Acknowledgement Courtyard!
